Head of Engineering – Based in Manila

Job description

A leading financial services organisation in the Philippines is seeking a seasoned leader to head their engineering teams, which manage digital applications and platforms. This exciting role is perfect for a hands-on technical leader interested in making a positive impact for millions of people. 
This role requires relocation to Manila if you are not locally based there.

 

Responsibilities
  • Manage the entire engineering lifecycle, ensuring adherence to standards across design, development, testing and deployment.

  • Set and enforce design principles for scalable, maintainable systems, focusing on microservices architecture.

  • Head the adoption of event-driven design and manage messaging systems like Kafka for efficient data processing.

  • Address technical debt and implement strategies to reduce risks impacting future development.

  • Manage several engineering teams, ensuring engineering standards and technical excellence. 

  • Drive process enhancements using best practices, CI/CD, automated testing and cloud-native strategies.

  • Ensure high code quality through testing, reviews and automation practices.

 
Requirements
  • Hands-on technical leader with a strong experience in backend development.

  • Proficient in programming languages, databases, microservices, system design and messaging systems (Java preferred but not mandatory)

  • Strong experience in Cloud technologies, containerisation and orchestration tools.

  • Strong understanding of DevOps, testing and monitoring. 

  • Able to manage several technical teams.

  • Good understanding of engineering best practices and IT governance.
