Senior Data Engineer

Job description

An exciting opportunity to join one of the world's fastest growing hedge funds. Based in Hong Kong, this role will lead the design, development and management for advanced data platforms.

Responsibilities 
  • Lead the design, development, and management of our advanced data platforms, with a specific focus on applications in the hedge fund sector.

  • Ensure the highest standards of technical excellence and reliability in our data solutions.

  • Play a crucial role in integrating financial market data, enabling advanced analytics in the hedge fund domain.

 

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

  • Deep understanding of public cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure) and their application in data engineering.

  • More than 4 years’ experience in data engineering, with at least 3 years focused on financial services, preferably in the hedge fund industry.

  • Proven experience in leading data engineering projects, with direct or indirect team management responsibilities.

  • Expertise in building and optimising data pipelines, particularly for financial data analytics.

  • Proficient in data pipeline tools like Apache Flink or Apache Spark, and workflow management with Airflow.

  • Advanced skills in SQL and experience with both relational and non-relational databases.

  • Familiarity with integrating BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Mode, Looker) and using REST and streaming protocols, particularly Kafka.

  • Strong skills in a JVM language (Java, Kotlin, Scala) are essential.

  • Experience managing data quality, privacy, and sovereignty in compliance with financial industry standards.

  • Solid understanding of agile methodologies, CI/CD, testing, and monitoring in a production environment.

  • Comfortable with complex datasets and enthusiastic about learning and growth in the financial domain.

  • Excellent communication skills and a customer-centric approach to product development. 

Salary: HKD$1.2 – 1.3 million per year (negotiable)
